Duane Williams — Founder of 444 Justice
Why 444 Justice Exists

Founded by Someone
Who Lived It.

After spending more than 11 years in prison for crimes he did not commit, Duane Williams experienced firsthand how critical overlooked evidence, proper investigation, and relentless advocacy can be.

A lighter found near the fire's origin was removed from the defense's copy of the report. 58 photographs were withheld. An informant received a $5,000 reward the jury never heard about. Following his exoneration in 2024, Duane founded 444 Justice to help others seek justice.

2012

Wrongfully Accused

Accused after a fatal house fire in Detroit following an argument the night before.

2013

Convicted — Life Without Parole

Wayne County jury convicts on felony murder, second-degree murder, and first-degree arson.

2013 – 2024

Maintained Innocence

Worked for over a decade to surface suppressed evidence and constitutional violations.

June 2024
